Its name "Suigetsu (Water-Moon) Kannon" comes from its image that the Kannon
sits at the water side gazing at the moon reflected in the water.
Its gentle and merciful face looks as if it could heal all of our agony. |
In Kamakura, the Great Buddha at Hase is typical of a handsome man
and the tiny Suigetsukannonsama at Matsugaoka Tokeiji is a beauty.
Suffering women who rushed into the temple may have complained about their problem to
the Kannonsama.
